 Venue: Forge Valley Community School Hall, Wood Lane, Sheffield S6 5HG.

In 1938 Karen national leaders’ demands to the British colonial administration for the Karen New Year to be recognized, and declared an official holiday were finally agreed. The Karen National New Year celebrations are held during the pleasant month of Th’Lay.

A comprehensive programme will be distributed on the day and it includes a few short speeches, Karen songs and a special Karen Don dance and a delicious buffet lunch. We would be delighted if you could join us on this special day.

ျမန္မာအစိုးရႏွင့္ KNU တို႔ အပစ္အခတ္ရပ္စဲေရး ေဆြးေႏြး သေဘာတူခဲ့သည့္ေနာက္ပိုင္း ကရင္ျပည္နယ္အတြင္း လယ္ယာေျမ သိမ္းဆည္းခံရမႈမွာ ပိုင္က်ဳံၿမိဳ႕နယ္တြင္ ၂၉,၁၄၈ဧက၊ လိႈင္းဘြဲၿမိဳ႕နယ္ ၂၀,၁၀၀ဧက၊ သွ်မ္းရြာ သစ္ၿမိဳ႕နယ္တြင္ ၂၁,၁၀၀ဧကရွိ လာသည္မွာ စိုးရိမ္ဖြယ္ရာျဖစ္ေၾကာင္း ၎ေတြ႔ဆံုပြဲ တက္ေရာက္ခဲ့သူ ကရင့္ေရးရာေကာ္မတီမွ ေစာေက်ာ္စြာက ေျပာသည္။
“ၿငိမ္းခ်မ္းေရးလုပ္တဲ့အခါမွာ ျပည္သူလူထုအတြက္ အက်ဳိးျပဳမျပဳ ထည့္သြင္းစဥ္းစားဖို႔။ ေနာက္ ကရင္ျပည္နယ္မွာ ဒုကၡသည္ ေတြ ျပန္လည္ေနခ်ထားေရးဆိုၿပီး လယ္ေျမေတြ အသိမ္းခံရတာ ရွိတယ္။ ဒါကို KNU က ကာကြယ္ေပး ဖို႔။”ဟု တင္ျပေျပာဆိုခဲ့ သည္။
အဆိုပါေတြ႔ဆံုပြဲ၌ ျပည္တြင္းလူမႈအဖြဲ႔အစည္း ကိုယ္စားလွယ္မ်ား၏ ေမးျမန္းခ်က္မ်ားကို KNU တြဲဖက္အတြင္းေရးမႉး(၂) ပဒိုေစာ ေဒါ့ေလးမူ၊ ဗဟိုေကာ္မတီ၀င္ ဘိတ္-ထား၀ယ္ခ႐ိုင္ ဥကၠဌ ပဒိုေစာကြယ္ထူး၀င္းႏွင့္ ဗဟိုေကာ္မတီ၀င္လည္းျဖစ္၊ ကရင္အမ်ဳိးသ မီးအစည္းအ႐ံုး၏ တြဲဖက္ အတြင္းေရးမႉး(၁) ေနာ္ဘလူးမင္းႏိုက္ဇန္တို႔က KNU အဖြဲ႕အတြင္းရွိ လက္ရွိ အေျခအေနမ်ား အပါအ ၀င္ အစိုးရႏွင့္ ဆက္လက္ လုပ္ေဆာင္သြားမည္မ်ားကို တံု႔ျပန္ရွင္းလင္း ေျပာဆိုခဲ့ျခင္းျဖစ္သည္။

ေတြ႔ဆံုပြဲတက္ေရာက္ခဲ့သည့္ ဖလံု-စေ၀ၚဒီမိုကရက္တစ္ပါတီ-PSDP ၏ ဒုဥကၠဌ မန္းေအာင္ျပည္စိုးကလည္း ၿငိမ္းခ်မ္းေရး တည္ ေဆာက္မႈအပိုင္းတြင္ KNU အေနျဖင့္ ဖက္ဒရယ္ျပည္ေထာင္စု တည္ေဆာက္ေရးႏွင့္ ကရင္အမ်ဳိးသားအခ်င္းခ်င္းၾကား စည္းလံုး ညီၫႊတ္မႈ တည္ေဆာက္ေရး အခန္းက႑ကို ထည့္သြင္းစဥ္းစား ရန္လိုေၾကာင္း တိုက္တြန္းေျပာၾကားခဲ့သည္။
အဆိုပါ လူမႈအဖြဲ႕အစည္းေခါင္းေဆာင္မ်ားက KNU ႏွင့္ အစိုးရအၾကား ပစ္ခတ္ရပ္စဲေရး သေဘာတူညီမႈေနာက္ပိုင္း ျဖစ္ေပၚ လာသည့္ လယ္ေျမသိမ္းဆည္းမႈမ်ားအျပင္ KNU ဆက္ဆံေရး႐ံုး၏ လုပ္ငန္းတာ၀န္မ်ား၊ KNU ကို အစိုးရမွ မတရားအသင္းမွ ပယ္ဖ်က္ေစလိုျခင္းမ်ားႏွင့္ အဖြဲ႔အတြင္း စည္းလံုးညီၫႊတ္မႈ အေျခအေနမ်ား၊ ၿငိမ္းခ်မ္းေရးက႑တြင္ အမ်ဳိးသမီးပါ၀င္မႈႏွင့္ လူငယ္မ်ား၏ ပညာေရး အေရးပါမႈမ်ားကို KNU ကိုယ္စားလွယ္မ်ားႏွင့္ အျပန္အလွန္ ေဆြးေႏြးခဲ့ၾကသည္။
KNU တြဲဖက္အတြင္းေရးမႉး(၂) ပဒိုေစာေဒါ့ေလးမႈက “က်ေနာ္တို႔ျပည္နယ္မွာ ကိုယ္ပိုင္အုပ္ခ်ဳပ္ဖို႔ ကရင္လူထုတစ္ရပ္လံုးရဲ႕ဆႏၵ ကို အေျခခံၿပီးေတာ့ ျပည္နယ္ဝန္ႀကီးခ်ဳပ္ ခန္႔အပ္ဖို႔ လိုတယ္။ ေနာက္ လူ႔အခြင့္အေရးခ်ဳိးေဖာက္မႈေတြ အၿမဲရိွေနေသးတယ္။ အထူးသျဖင့္ ေျမယာသိမ္းခံရမႈကိစၥပါ။ ဒါေတြအားလံုး အစိုးရနဲ႔ ထပ္ေတြ႔ဆံုေ ဆြးေႏြးတဲ့အခါ တင္ျပသြားမယ္”ဟု ေကအုိင္စီသို႔ ေျပာသည္။

Burmese immigrant 'strangled, raped and beat neighbor's 7-year-old daughter before leaving her dead body on the floor of his shower'

A 25-year-old Burmese immigrant is facing first-degree murder and child kidnapping charges for having allegedly raped and killed the seven-year-old daughter of one of his neighbors.

Esar Met was arrested in early 2008, after Salt Lake City authorities found the body of young Hser Ner Moo in the shower of his basement apartment. Investigators ruled that Met had beaten and raped the young girl, before strangling her to death.

She was described as a happy, smart little girl who loved going to Sunday school, was quickly learning English and was a delight to family, friends and her teachers.

Burmese immigrant Esar Met is accused of brutally murdering and raping the seven-year-old daughter of one of his neighbors.

Now, four years after her murder, a preliminary hearing is being held to determine whether there is actually enough evidence to try Met for the murder.

Earlier this week, District Judge William Barrett heard testimonies from Moo's family, who are also Burmese immigrants, as well as Met’s roommates and friends, in an attempt to gain a clearer understanding of the circumstances surrounding the girl's death.

Based on the family’s description of the events, Moo went missing sometime in the afternoon, though no one seemed to know exactly when or why the girl left the apartment.

Moo’s brother, who was home at the time, testified that he had fallen asleep and when he awoke his sister was gone.

Likewise, Moo’s mother, Pearlly Wa, said she had no idea that her daughter had gone missing until she returned home from an afternoon dentist appointment.

“ၿငိမ္းခ်မ္းေရး ေဆြးေႏြးတာက ဘယ္လိုမွန္း မသိေသးဘူး၊ လုပ္ငန္းရွင္ေတြက ထိုးဝင္လာေနတယ္။ အခု လုပ္ေနတာေတြကလည္း ေဒသခံေတြအတြက္ အက်ဳိးခံစားခြင့္၊ အာမခံခ်က္မွ မရွိဘူး။ အဲဒါေၾကာင့္ ေဒသခံလူထုေတြ အက်ဳိးခံစားခြင့္နဲ႔ သဘာဝ ပတ္ဝန္းက်င္ ထိခိုက္ပ်က္စီးမႈေတြအတြက္ တိုက္တြန္းတာပါ” ဟု လူထုဆံုရပ္ ျဖစ္ေျမာက္ေရး ေကာ္မတီ၏ ေျပာဆိုခြင့္ရွိသူ ေစာဖိုးခ်ဳိက ဧရာဝတီသို႔ ေျပာသည္။

(Commentary) – Suu Kyi's recent US trip was a huge win for her as well as a very crucial loss.

The big win was the outpouring of accolades, tributes and adulation from the UN, Americans all over the nation and by the Burmese diaspora. She reaped tributes for all her sacrifices and steadfast defense of freedom for all Burmese, and she deserves it all without a doubt.

Her loss is Khun Htun Oo, the Kachins and the ethnic groups and their regard for her. This is much much more crucial.

Khun Htun Oo is a big voice. She was compelled to answer Khun Htun Oo and her ethnic brethren’s' criticism from the podiums of the US. That should not have been the case. Her reasons for not criticizing the government on ethnic issues should have been communicated to Khun and the rest of the ethnic and democratic leaders way before the misunderstanding arose, by networking actively and making known to them her strategy in reconciliation with the president.

Her reasoning was that the NLD is not the government therefore she did not want to take sides.  Taking a side could be like a genie, once let out it could be hard to take back.

 1 European Karen Network sends its condolences to the family of Padoh Saw David Taw, a prominent Karen leader of the Karen National Union (KNU), who passed away on 14th October2012 in Rangoon. Padoh Saw David Taw was born in Rangoon on 10 March, 1948. He graduated from Rangoon University with a Bachelors of Art in history. He joined the struggle to free his people since he was young, and later became Executive Committee member of the KNU, carrying out important work for the Karen resistance. He was a leading member of the KNU’s delegation that negotiated the-ceasefire agreement with the Burmese government earlier this year in January 2012.

 European Karen Network is saddened by the loss of a great leader. He was a fearless and impressive leader, which earns him respect as one of the leading ethnic politicians in a modern Burma. He was hard working, and he dedicated his whole life in the struggle for freedom for his people and a federal democratic Burma. He had made a significant contribution to the current developments in the country.

ေအာက္တိုဘာလ ၁၄ရက္၊ ၂၀၁၂ခုႏွစ္။ (ေကအိုင္စီ) ကရင္အမ်ဳိးသားအစည္းအ႐ံုး(KNU)၏ ဗဟို တရားေရးတာ၀န္ခံ ပဒိုေစာေဒးဗစ္ေထာသည္ ယေန႔ည ျမန္မာစံေတာ္ခ်ိန္ ၁၀နာရီခြဲတြင္ ရန္ကုန္ၿမိဳ႕၌ ကြယ္လြန္သြားၿပီ ျဖစ္သည္။ အသက္ ၆၅ႏွစ္ရွိသည့္ ပဒိုေဒးဗစ္ေထာသည္ ၎တက္ေရာက္ကုသေနသည့္ မဂၤလာဒံု စစ္ေဆး႐ံု၌ပင္ ကြယ္လြန္သြားျခင္းျဖစ္ၿပီး ၎ကို ရန္ကုန္မွ ကရင္ျပည္နယ္ ျမ၀တီၿမိဳ႕နယ္၊ သကၤန္းညီေနာင္ေက်းရြာအထိ ဟယ္လီေကာ္ပတာျဖင့္ ညတြင္းခ်င္း ျပန္လည္ပို႔ေဆာင္ ရန္ အစိုးရဘက္မွ စီစဥ္ထားသည္။ ယင္းေနာက္ သကၤန္းညီေနာင္မွတဆင့္ ထိုင္း-ျမန္မာနယ္စပ္သို႔ ျပန္လည္သယ္ေဆာင္သြားရန္ ေကအဲန္ယူဘက္မွ စီစဥ္ထားသည္ဟု ေကအဲန္ယူအသိုင္းအ၀ိုင္း၏ ေျပာဆိုမႈမ်ားအရ သိရသည္။ ဇနီးေနာ္ဂ်င္းဂ်ာႏွင့္ သားႏွစ္ဦး သမီးသံုးဦးထြန္းကားသည့္ ပဒိုေစာေဒးဗစ္ေထာကို မိဘမ်ားျဖစ္သည့္ ဦးေရႊေထာ၊ ေနာ္ေမဖိုးတို႔မွ ၁၉၄၈ခုႏွစ္၊ မတ္လ ၁၀ရက္တြင္ ေမြးဖြားခဲ့သည္။ သူသည္ ရန္ကုန္တကၠသိုလ္၌ သမုိင္းဘာသာရပ္ျဖင့္ ဘြဲ႕ရခဲ့သူျဖစ္သည္။ ၎၏ စ်ာပနကိစၥႏွင့္ ပတ္သက္၍ ေနာက္ရက္မ်ားတြင္ ေကအိုင္စီမွ ဆက္လက္ ေရးသားတင္ျပသြားမည္ျဖစ္သည္
