A Global Day of Action

Dear Friend,

We would like to invite you to a global day of action on 11th February 2011 to call for an immediate release of 34 Karen and Arakanese freedom fighters who have been in Indian Jail for almost 13 years. In the UK, there will be a demonstration in front of the Indian High Commission at 12:00 noon to 1:00PM in London.

These 34 members are from the National United Party of Arakan (NUPA) and the Karen National Union (KNU)... and when they were on a mission together, they were arrested by Indian intelligence in 1998. Six of their leaders were executed by Indian authority and the rest were put in Indian jail since then. They have recently been allowed interviews with UNHCR where the interview took place last month, January 2011. We are still waiting for the result of the UNHCR’s interview. If they were not successful and deported back to Burma, they could face persecution by the Burmese regime. 11 February 2011 is 13th anniversary of their arrested.

On global day of Action, we will urge UNHCR to grant them refugee status, Indian Government to release them immediately and commit not to deport them back to Burma.

Please come and join the demonstration to raise our voices for their freedom.

Date: Friday 11 February 2011
Time: 12:00 to 13:00 hour
Place : High Commission of India
India House, Aldwych, London, WC2B 4NA

Nearest Tube Stations: Holborn, Covent Garden, Temple and Charing Cross.

This action is organized by Karen National Union- UK, Arakan Students' and Youths' Congress (AASYC) and supported by the Burma Campaign UK.

Hope to see you there.
