Invitation of the 3rd General Meeting of European Karen Network Sweden, 13-14 July 2012

To Karen communities in Europe,

The European Karen Network is pleased to invite you to our third general meeting, which will be held in Sweden on 13 & 14 July 2012. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the work of European Karen Network, to strengthen Karen community in Europe, share information and work towards the goal of the network.

This is the third time, Karen communities across Europe to come together and discuss Karen related issues and move forward as a unified voice. The first and second meetings were successfully held in Sweden and Demark. This year, the EKN meeting will be hosted by the Karen Swedish Committee. During the two-days meeting, there will be reports, discussion,  workshops, presentations, sports and entertainment programs.

The European Karen Network aims to raise awareness about the situation of the Karen people and Burma as a whole; pressure European governments to do more to bring about peace for the Karen and for Burma.

The 4 key objectives are:
-To act as a strong public voice on behalf of the Karen National Union, which represents the Karen people of Burma, and is a democratic Karen organization committed to human rights and democracy in Burma, and to raise awareness about the suffering of the Karen people and the struggle for a federal Burma where all people live in peace, democracy and harmony.
-To strengthen and improve coordination of Karen communities Europe wide.
-To seek stronger action on Burma from the international communities including European governments, the European Union, the United Nations Security Council, and other governments and international institutions.
-To promote unity among Karen worldwide and foster contacts with all Karen people from Burma, including in Kawthoolei (Karen State), and other Karen people worldwide.

We would be grateful if all Karen communities in Europe could send representatives to participate in this year meeting. Please RSVP no later than 15 June 2012.
